“Stand up for Mother Earth-even to death?”

To win this battle for peace and health on this planet we must all stand and deliver our best even if the price is high.

Do not support world leaders, irresponsible corporations and mindless reckless consumerism. The reckless and irresponsible greedy behavior are destroying life on earth.

This film is a poignant reminder to save ourselves and the planet we must stand up and be counted even if it costs us the ultimate sacrifice. This docudrama is dedicated to all who died fighting for the planet and those whose lives are on the line today.

The clip was put together by Vivek Chauhan, a young film maker, together with naturalists working with the Sanctuary Asia network (http://www.sanctuaryasia.com/).  Thank you  from Nature’s Crusaders and Mother Nature.

Thanks to UTUBE and Sanctuary Asia Networks for this powerful film clip.

Dear NC Supporteers

Thanks to your efforts, we’ve already defeated one of the worst attacks on our wildlife in recent memory:

the Extinction Rider that would block vital protections for walruses, wolverines and other imperiled species.

Unfortunately, all of our hard work could be undone if anti-wildlife Senators manage a backroom deal to include any of the House of Representatives’ awful anti-wildlife provisions in a comprehensive spending bill for the federal government.

We’re mobilizing our best activists in defense of our imperiled wildlife on an upcoming conference call.   Please RSVP now to join us.

Right now, your Senators are back in their home states. But when they return to Washington in just a couple of weeks, they’ll begin work on a catch-all spending bill for the federal government that could spell disaster for our wildlife.

The House of Representatives has already made their stance on wildlife protection clear.

  • Anti-wildlife Representatives have larded up the Interior spending bill with proposals that undermine imperiled species and the Endangered Species Act.
  • They’ve slashed funding for national wildlife refuges and other core conservation priorities.
  • And they’ve proposed legislation to end Mexican gray wolf recovery efforts and prevent the Environmental Protection Agency from keeping dangerous pesticides that threaten human health and wildlife out of our waters.

We’re fighting each and every one of these damaging provisions in the House. Now we need to ensure that none of these awful provisions find their way into Senate legislation.

Please take action now. Let me know that you will stand up for wildlife and keep America’s natural treasures off the chopping block.

We all know the risks of backroom deal-making, and we all know that these attacks on our natural heritage have no business in a bill to fund the federal government.

Please take action now. RSVP now for the conference call.

With Gratitude,

“Your needed to save Brazil’s rain forest”

The Amazon is in serious danger:    Click here to help

Brazil is on the verge of gutting its forest protection laws —

unless we act now, vast tracts of our planet’s lungs could be opened up to clear-cutting devastation. Click here to help

This threat to the Amazon has sparked widespread anger and protests across the country and tensions are rising. In an effort to stifle criticism, armed thugs, allegedly hired by loggers, have murdered environmental advocates. But the movement is fighting back — in three days, brave indigenous people are leading massive marches across Brazil to demand action and inside sources say President Dilma is considering vetoing the changes.

79% of Brazilians support a veto of the forest law changes and this internal pressure is leading some in Dilma’s administration to back a veto. But we need a global cry of solidarity with the Brazilian people to really force Dilma’s hand. Our global petition will be boldly displayed on banners at the front of the massive marches for Amazon protection. Let’s reach one million to SAVE THE AMAZON! Sign the urgent petition and send this on to everyone.

“Victory for threatened species”

House Votes Down ‘Extinction Rider’ That Would Have Halted Spending to
Protect New Species Under the Endangered Species Act

TWO THUMBS UP AWARD Center for Biological Diversity

In a victory for imperiled species, the U.S. House of Representatives today voted not to include the “extinction rider” in an appropriations bill that would have stopped the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from spending any money to protect new species under the Endangered Species Act or to designate “critical habitat” for their survival. The House voted 224-202 in favor of an amendment from Rep. Norm Dicks (D-Wash.) to strip the “extinction rider” from the Interior department’s appropriation bill.

“The extinction rider would have been a disaster for hundreds of animals and plants across the country that desperately need the help of the Endangered Species Act to survive,” said Noah Greenwald, endangered species program director for the Center for Biological Diversity. “Today’s vote is a promising sign for wolverines, walruses and species in all 50 states that, without help, face the very real prospect of extinction.”

Plants and animals across the country are at heightened risk of extinction due to habitat destruction, global climate change, extreme weather events and other factors. Earlier this month the Center and the Fish and Wildlife Service reached a landmark agreement to speed protection for 757 imperiled U.S. species, including the wolverine, Pacific walrus, Rio Grand cutthroat trout and Mexican gray wolf.

“Saving the honey bee from extinction”

Seems there are many projects in motion worldwide to try to save the honey bee from demise.

Many factors have caused this imbalance in one of Mother Nature’s finest worker urbanization, pesticides and chemicals of all kinds, the EMFs from power lines, cell phones and their obnoxious cell towers, GM plants and chemical infested modern agriculture, poor quality food for many commercialized stocks of bees and trucking the hives long distances to pollinated field of polluted crops without a rest between seasons.

Now many are trying to help this bee-leagured population recover. The latest extreme measure is to forget about recovery and living mre harmoniously and just engineer a super beeimmune to mites and pesty  diseases. I can see it now the super godzilla of a bee from the north now meets the Africanized bee from Africa and the offspring will off the world.

bees, bee breeding, parasitic mites, bee population, University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, cold resistant bees

Over the last five years the world’s honey bee population has been steadily dwindling, with many beekeepers citing 2010 as the worst year yet. In order to save these extremely important insects, scientists are working on breeding a new super honey bee that they hope will be resistant to cold, disease, mites and pesticides. If all goes well, the new and improved insect will continue to pollinate our crops for years to come.

On the other extreme with a the gentler approach, is Michael Leung and HK Honey from Hong Kong whose approach is refreshing and Zen like. Check out the video.

“Happy 4th 4 polar bears”

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan (Bless you!) has officially rejected Alaska’s arguments

and given the polar bears continued protection under the Endangered Species Act.

This ruling is a huge win for our long-running work to protect these mighty Arctic bears who are struggling to survive while facing rapidly melting sea ice

We win a big one!

and oil companies that want to drill in the heart of their habitat.

The Center for Biological Diversity and others, including Nature’s Crusaders members worked  together tirelessly over the years achieved this critical victory.  Without the tens of thousands of actions you’ve taken and the support you’ve given us over the years to keep fighting in court for the majestic white bear — We and Mother Nature thank you.

In 2005, the Center for Biological Diversity filed the federal petition to list the polar bear under the Endangered Species Act, we’ve led the fight to keep the bears from extinction.

In 2008 the first victory for the bear was won when it was officially listed as a  “threatened” species.

Then the State of Alaska, big-game hunters and others went to court this year to try to strip Endangered Species Act protections from polar bears. Center for Biological Diversity spearheaded the legal battle to defend the polar bears right to full protection under the Endangered Species Act in court, outlining the urgent protections needed to save them from the terrible effects of global warming.

This Thursday, U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan rejected Alaska’s arguments and said the decision to protect bears because of melting Arctic sea ice was well supported. He also noted the plight of the polar bear was “troubling.”

Even as we take a moment with you to celebrate the court decision, we know our work is far from over. Scientists tell us that, left unchecked, warming could melt so much sea ice that two-thirds of the world’s polar bears, including all those in Alaska, will probably be gone in 40 years.
Thank you again for the part you played in helping secure this win for polar bears. We couldn’t have done it without you.

“Carbon dating for tree rings and now fish”

Carbon dating for tree rings has been a well developed tool to study the age of a tree, but just recently scientists found that this same technique can be used to figure out where salmon go and what they have been eating when they travel out to sea to feed.

The University of Southampton researchers Dr Kirsteen MacKenzie and Dr Clive Trueman shows that the chemistry of fish scales will unlock the mystery of what the British salmon are eating. All British salmon do not migrate from their home rivers and end up in the same feeding grounds.  Different salmon may respond differently to environmental change. Know one knows just yet.

Research shows that fish carry natural records of feeding location hidden in the chemistry of their scales.
The chemistry of animal tissues reflects the composition of food and water in the area where they live and feed, and can act as a natural tag. Using this idea, the Southampton team, working with scientists from the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas), the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) and the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), looked at the isotopes of carbon contained in historical records of scales of Atlantic salmon.
The scales grew while the salmon were feeding at sea, so the carbon isotope values of the scales reflect the values of their diet in the feeding grounds. The team compared the scale values through time with satellite records of sea surface temperature across the North Atlantic. The locations of sea where the time series match best are most likely to be the areas where the fish have been feeding.
“As every single salmon contains the natural chemical tag, we can now see where fish from individual rivers go to feed in the Atlantic,” lead author Dr Kirsteen MacKenzie said.

This may be the first step into unlocking the mystery of why the salmon population has been in a steady decline for years. It could help us conserve the species.

“UN Water 4 good of who?”

Oh! it has been coming for 10 years. The total dismantling of the common person’s belief that the UN-WAter (United Nations Waterwas founded to

“Safe drinking water and basic sanitation are intrinsic to human survival,
well-being and dignity” -UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

protect the little guys and were really good people.  If the vetoing of protection for many endangered fish and animal life didn’t convince you well the lasted power grab by the UN Council on water rights should open your eyes.

The powers’ that be are now demanding regulation of the private sector’s products — from water and natural resource  to inscrutable financial powers… and are using “the greening banner to convince the public of their high morals. With the  climate crisis  and its potential to permanently  disrupted modern commerce and our very existence, as we know it. Mother Earth is poised to dry out and force us into a global water rights battle.

So what are the mega corporation like MERCK DOING? They are joining forces behind a pseudo-green banner at the UN to gain control over water rights worldwide.

UN-Water is a mechanism of the United Nations, endorsed in 2003 for the follow-up process of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development. Its purpose is to support states in their water-related efforts to reach the Millennium Development Goals.
UN-Water strengthens coordination and coherence among UN agencies that work on all aspects of freshwater and sanitation. This includes surface and groundwater resources, the interface between freshwater and seawater and water-related disasters. UN-Water aims at improving the cooperation between relevant governing bodies and development organizations. It is responsible for the annual World Water Day as well as for the UN Water decade.
The powers that be see water rights, climate issues or endangered species preservation as a means to an end it is all seen as a giant political and financial game, rather than the best and only chance to head off a catastrophe like we have never before imagined. Climate change is upon us, if the world governments continue to represent corporate interests above all others, then we must challenge our states, stay active, speak up and be aware. I guess its all in its name UN-Water probably there to encourage “UN-People”.

“How are you helping Mother Earth today?”

After reading the USA Today article about the massive use of energy the Cable TV set top boxes use, I am unplugging the boxes not in use. It might make sense to put our main box on a timer since it’s only used a few hours a day?  (Anyone know?) It is time for US cable companies to step up and create equipment that supports the environment and the health of all living things.

The study found that today’s average new cable high-definition digital video recorders (HD-DVR) use more than half the energy of an average new refrigerator and more than an average new flat panel TV. Two-thirds of their total energy consumption – the equivalent annual energy output of six coal-burning power plants – occurs when they’re not in use.

In contrast, the study says cellphones are able to use extremely low levels of power when not in use, primarily to preserve battery life. It says similar innovations are beginning to appear in Sky Broadcasting’s set-top boxes in Europe and it urges pay-TV service providers in the U.S. such as Comcast, Time Warner, DirecTV, Dish Network, Verizon and AT&T to do the same. It also encourages consumers to ask providers to supply them with boxes that meet ENERGY STAR Version 4.0.
